Orchard Team Leader – Horticulture

Are you an experienced horticulturalist with a passion for organic growing? Monavale Blueberries is seeking a skilled and proactive Orchard Team Leader to join us on a full-time, permanent basis.

In this role, you will be at the heart of our operations, ensuring the health of our plants and the quality of our harvests through meticulous care and efficient management. We are looking for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and possesses the leadership skills to guide our seasonal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee pest and disease monitoring, identification, and integrated management strategies
  • The application of fertiliser, crop nutrition and protective treatments
  • Monitoring crop health and growth, and implementing appropriate horticultural practices and quality as directed
  • Liaising with the orchard management team to plan for orchard activities, resource requirements, and seasonal changes
  • Manage water systems to ensure optimal hydration throughout the growth cycle and perform irrigation repairs
  • Lead day-to-day maintenance, including pruning, weed/scrub management
  • Planting: Laying mulch, punching holes, and planting
  • Operations & Safety: Safely operate machinery (tractors, mowers, quad bikes, and forklifts), manage daily work schedules, and maintain rigorous Health & Safety standards, including reporting and risk mitigation
  • Maintaining detailed records of orchard activities and timesheets
  • Harvest & Packing: Coordinate the collection and lifting of berries, support pickers with logistics, and supervise grading and packing processes

What We Are Looking For

  • New Zealand resident or citizen with at least 2 years in a similar horticultural role. You will have proven expertise in crop checks, spraying, fertilising, and the full range of orchard maintenance tasks
  • A qualification in Horticulture is highly preferred
  • You must hold a current Full Driver’s Licence. A Forklift Licence is preferred.
  • Strong time management skills, the ability to work independently, and the confidence to lead and coordinate seasonal staff
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a solutions-focused approach
  • A genuine interest in and commitment to organic growing principles is essential to our mission.
  • You must be able to adapt to flexible working hours as required.

We are looking for two individuals who thrive in a hands-on environment and possesses the leadership skills to guide our seasonal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with the orchard management team to plan for orchard activities, resource requirements, and seasonal changes
  • Lead day-to-day maintenance, including pruning, weed/scrub management
  • Operations & Safety: Safely operate machinery (tractors, mowers, quad bikes, and forklifts), manage daily work schedules, and maintain rigorous Health & Safety standards, including reporting and risk mitigation
  • Netting
  • Erecting and dissembling tunnels
  • Maintaining detailed records of orchard activities and timesheets
  • Directing harvest staff to their allocated picking areas, ensuring picking quality is maintained, collecting fresh berries from the field and delivering to the packhouse.

What We Are Looking For

Cafe Assistant | Café Irresistiblue

Position Overview

We are looking for two enthusiastic and reliable Cafe Assistants to join our tight-knit team on a day-to-day basis during our Cherry Blossoms Season on a fixed term contract.

Working hours will be as follows: Saturday 29 August 2026 to Sunday 01 March 2026. Workdays will be Saturday and/or Sundays rostered for 2-8 hours per shift.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, answer questions with patience and enthusiasm, and assist with any needs.
  • Drink Preparation: Prepare hot and cold drinks to a high standard while continuously monitoring and improving your performance.
  • Orders & Till Operation: Take food orders accurately, handle the till and give change with precision, and field telephone inquiries politely.
  • Environment & Presentation: Keep the cafe clean, tidy, and presentable at all times, particularly working areas behind the counter and customer tables (shared responsibility with team members).
  • Food Preparation: Assist with food preparation duties as requested by the Manager, Supervisor, or Chef.
  • Deliver food and drinks to tables, clean tables and wash dishes.
  • Hygiene & Safety: Maintain exceptionally high standards of personal hygiene and kitchen cleanliness, strictly adhering to all Food Hygiene and Health & Safety policies.

Café Chef | Café Irresistiblue

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate, talented, and dedicated Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team during our Cherry Blossoms season on a fixed term contract; Monday 07 September – Sunday 01 November 2026.

In this role, you will play a key part in crafting exceptional culinary experiences, maintaining the highest standards of food safety, and working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation & Execution: Prepare, cook, bake and present dishes to the exact specifications as per our menu, ensuring consistent quality, taste, and visual appeal across all services.
  • Kitchen Standards & Hygiene: Maintain immaculate cleanliness and hygiene standards across all food preparation and storage areas, fully complying with local food safety regulations.
  • Inventory & Stock Management: Monitor stock levels, rotate produce efficiently to minimize food waste, and assist with ordering and stocktakes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively alongside front-of-house and kitchen staff during peak service hours to ensure smooth, timely operations.
  • Monitor and minimize food wastage, raising any concerns with the Head Chef

What We Are Looking For

  • All round café Chef experience working in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Qualifications: Relevant culinary qualifications and a valid food safety certificate are preferred; Certificate in Cookery L4 or L5 Diploma
  • Skill & Versatility: Strong knife skills, a solid understanding of various cooking methods, and the ability to thrive under pressure during busy rushes.
  • Good Communication skills: If you are a traveller, a good command of English is required.
  • Work Ethic: A positive attitude, punctuality, speed, consistency in presentation, flavour, basic baking, a strong eye for detail, and a genuine passion for great food.
  • Must have the ability to follow a recipe
  • Flexibility: Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays as required by roster needs.
